  6. Israel's network, ILAN, is expected to be upgraded to 128kb by the end
  7. of August 1992.  In addition, one of its two 64kb international links,
  8. the one terminating at PSI in the USA, will also be upgraded to 128kb
  9. by the end of August.  The link to CERN will remain currently at 64kb.

  11. On the regulatory end, our government has finally authorized
  12. commercial R&D organizations as well as educational and cultural
  13. organizations to connect to the network.  Previously, the operating
  14. license ILAN was granted was for a limited set of users, those in
  15. higher education and non-profit R&D.  This change in government policy
  16. will allow our network to expand into a whole new area of users within
  17. Israel.  The details for government subsidies, a pricing structure,
  18. rules of usage, as well as setting up a dial-in service provider is
  19. currently being finalized.

  21. Current traffic levels run at about 64 Gbytes/month on a national
  22. level and about 30 Gbytes/month of data traffic interchanged with
  23. foreign networks.
